Need ideas for healthy airplane snacks?
If you’re anything like me, the flight can be the most exciting and exhausting part of traveling.
The anticipation of getting there… mixed with the stress of sitting in one place for hours, only being able to eat at weird times.
I’ve learned that bringing healthy airplane snacks is essential to keeping my mood and energy up while I’m traveling (as well as saving some money!)
1. Fresh Fruit
Fruits like apples, oranges, or bananas are the perfect healthy travel snacks.
Just toss them into your bag, and you’re good to go!
If you have some extra time, you can also prep some fresh berries or apple sticks and pack them in a small plastic bag or container.
2. Dried Fruit
Dried fruit is a perfect alternative for those on the go. Make sure to opt for the unsweetened varieties, to keep the calories and sugar down!
3. Cheese Crisps
Cheese crisps are another top choice for healthy travel snacks- no refrigeration required!
Paired with some fruit, they add a solid source of protein and fat, leaving you satisfied for longer.
My favorites are these Whisps parmesan cheese crisps.
Pro tip: Did you know? Parmesan cheese contains almost NO lactose! This is a blessing for those like myself who are lactose intolerant, but love cheese!
4. Protein Bars
Protein is essential to making you feel full (so you’re not snacking through your entire flight), so I always keep some protein bars on hand while I travel.
Look for bars with as little sugar as possible!
5. Smart Sweets
Sometimes you just have a craving, you know?
Kick sugar, but keep candy? I’m in!
Smart Sweets are my favorite healthy candy brand, because they’re sweetened with stevia!
My favorite flavors are the peach rings and the sour blast buddies. (Sooo good!)
Packing some for your flight will keep you from buying the super expensive and sugary candy at the airport.
6. Dried Edamame
7. Roasted Chickpeas
8. Jerky
Jerky has come a long way from the classic gas station snack.
There are many premium options nowadays, available at Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s.
Jerky is a great source of protein for those who prefer savory foods over sweeter protein bars.
9. Fresh Veggies
Carrot sticks and celery paired with dip (light ranch, maybe?) is always a winning combo!
10. Veggie Chips
Veggie chips are a great way to sneak in some veggies, while still enjoying the flavor and convenience of chips.
11. Pita Chips + Hummus
12. Nuts
A handful of almonds (or your favorite nut) will give you protein and good fats, if you just need something to tie you over.
However, nuts are something you should cautious of eating in an enclosed space, as it’s possible someone around you could have serious nut allergies.
Just be aware of this, and maybe check with your neighbors before opening any.
Eating them out in the concourse should be fine, though!
13. Rice Cakes + Nut Butter
Chocolate rice cakes with some peanut butter, or maybe… Nutella? Say no more!
14. Sandwiches
I think lots of people don’t realize you can actually fly with real food.
If you have the time beforehand, it’s really smart to pack some sandwiches along with some of the snacks mentioned above.
This means you won’t have to buy the super expensive sandwiches at the airport, saving you time and money!
15. Wraps
Wraps are another great idea.
Really, any foods that are filling enough to be a small meal, and are easily eaten cold are a solid choice!
16. Whole Grain Bread/Muffin
17. Cheese/String Cheese
18. Boiled Egg
Okay… not my first choice for the plane, but there’s no denying it’s a great source of protein!
Maybe just warn your neighbor about the smell, LOL!
Pair a boiled egg with the snacks above, and make your own Starbucks protein box, for way cheaper!
In conclusion…
I hope these healthy airplane snacks gave you some ideas for you next flight!
Let me know in the comments if I’ve missed anything.
