Today I’ve compiled a list of Houston coffee shops that boast great coffee AND atmosphere!
As a native Houstonian (and a self-proclaimed cozy expert) today’s post is near and dear to my heart.
Many of my favorite memories take place over a cup of coffee in one of these cafes.
With that said, let’s settle in to the best Houston coffee shops!
1. Agora
Montrose
I can’t not mention Agora!
Tucked away in an old Montrose house all but hidden by trees, Agora is a Houston staple.
This quaint cafe serves coffee, beer, wine, smoothies, and pastries.
Here, enter to a rustic interior, complete with a small wooden staircase that leads to upstairs seating.
Come early to grab a spot before it gets too busy!

2. Anonymous Cafe
Upper Kirby
Anonymous Cafe effortlessly blends sleek, modern aesthetics with rustic charm.
Its bright interior, tasty dishes, and beautifully crafted beverages make it an Instagram dream!
Although, the coolest part is that the cafe is owned and run by a wonderful Greek couple, and their Greek inspired food is made fresh daily.
(Hello, authentic Greek frappe!)

3. Boomtown Coffee Main St.
Downtown
This is actually the second Boomtown location, (the original is in the Heights) but it’s my favorite because it’s so unique!
Starting with the locale- Boomtown is in a really cool part of downtown Houston, called the Historic District.
The building and interior give off an early 20th century, NOLA-inspired vibe.
They serve up delicious, ethically-sourced coffee as well as a solid food menu.
Here’s the coolest part- they have a full bar as well!
On top of beer and wine, they offer a wonderful selection of liquor and specialty craft cocktails.
There truly is something for everyone here.

4. Cafeza
First Ward
For artisan coffee and wine served with delicious tapas, look no further!
On the outside, Cafeza sports a hole-in-the-wall-chic exterior.
Once inside, you’ll find a vintage diner vibe with Spanish flair.
Local art adorns the walls, and the intimate interior is often filled with the sounds of live music.
Cafeza’s small, but vibrant menu is inspired by the cafes of Barcelona and Buenos Aires.
Make sure to try the churros and empanadas!

5. Common Bond
Montrose
This bright and airy cafe is beloved not just for its great food and espresso, but also its extensive bakery.
The selection includes tons of delicious pastries, breads, and even custom cakes.
Weekend brunch is the perfect time to grab a beer or glass of wine- and it gets packed!
Common Bond now has additional locations in the Heights and the Medical Center, but the original is still the most popular.

6. EQ Heights
Heights
In my opinion, EQ is seriously slept on!
Located in a renovated Heights bungalow, this coffee shop is a charming neighborhood gem.
Their menu consists of very reasonably priced coffee and light bites.
Lounge in a comfy armchair, or catch up with friends on their dog-friendly patio.
They also have occasional live music!

7. Retrospect Coffee Bar
Midtown
Housed in a renovated 1920’s gas station, this espresso bar is a historical landmark.
Retrospect serves crepes, paninis, pastries, and breakfast tacos from Tacos A Go Go.
Although there is no indoor seating, their large (dog-friendly) patio is covered and heated in the colder months!

8. Tout Suite
East Downtown
Although EaDo is still up-and-coming, Tout Suite is for sure well established!
It’s become popular due to its delicious coffee and industrial aesthetic.
Tout Suite offer a full menu, along with plenty of desserts.
It’s a great place to study, meet friends, or even take a casual business meeting.
However, arrive here early to scope out a table, as they fill up fast.
If you’re in a happy hour mood, they serve a nice selection of craft beer and wine as well.
